Appomattox Court House National Historical Park

On April 9, 1865, the surrender of the Army of Northern Virginia took place in the McLean House in the village of Appomattox Court House, Virginia. This signaled the end of the nation’s largest war. Today you can walk the path of General Robert E. Lee and General Ulysses  S. Grant. Start your visit at the Visitor Center where museum exhibits, video programs, seasonal talks, and map orientations are available.
